In the height of the globe financial crisis of 2008 — a difficult time for architects— Peter Kostyolov received an unhoped-for mail with two orders. 1 in a tight lodging of China Town, the other – in a double-level apartment, 250 m² in location. Truth is, the former was sold soon after a slight refurbishment: the new owner hid the carefully restored brick masonry under a layer of artificial brickwork with plastic and installed a shower cabin with hydro-massage rather of sanitary porcelain by Duravit (“1930” line).

Yet, the architect’s injured feelings have been completely healed by the second project. The space was truly breathtaking: 250 m², two levels, 9-meter-high ceilings in some parts of the flat – all that gave space for implementing Peter’s preferred components – mezzanines. On top of that, the clients, a family with two children, gave him a blank verify. The only condition was warm color range.

The entire approach took as extended as two years, which was sufficient for the preset context to alter: now the hosts got another two babies. This truth undoubtedly affected the original architectural and functional plans.

The project was distinctive for numerous causes, which made it feasible to turn the lodging into a home in the house. Thanks to the wonderful ceiling height, two levels were supplemented with one more a single, which added about 80 bonus square meters to the living space.
